Early Passion Sparked by Family Influence
Successful real estate guru Mwenda Thuranira has taken his followers down the money lane after opening up about his journey in the highly competitive industry.
The My Space CEO disclosed that anyone with intentions of investing in real estate should be very passionate about it and patient in the process.
Speaking during a candid interview with Financially Incorrect, Mwenda narrated how his journey in real estate kicked off.
According to him, his love for the business started in childhood. He would often accompany his grandfather, who was in the industry, to work, an experience that planted the seeds of his career path.

Later, while working in the US, Thuranira enrolled for professional training in real estate, sharpening his skills and deepening his passion. He started investing back home in Kenya using savings from his work abroad, buying small properties, including his first plot for Sh 500,000—a move that taught him financial discipline.
Facing Setbacks in Funding Major Projects
Like in any industry, Mwenda’s journey was not without challenges. When he conceived the MySpace Mini and Strip Malls project, raising capital became a daunting task.
Despite having completed projects in Mombasa, he still struggled to find financial backing in Nairobi. He approached numerous banks for a Sh 700 million loan but was repeatedly turned down.

His perseverance, however, kept him going. For over five years, he knocked on doors without success until fate finally intervened.
A Life-Changing Partnership and Billion-Shilling Investment
Mwenda’s breakthrough came unexpectedly. While seeking a simple connection, he shared his vision for the My Town Mini and Strip Malls with an old friend.
Impressed by his passion and dedication, the friend decided to invest close to Sh 20 billion in the project. What banks had denied him for years was unlocked in just five minutes of conversation.
“Real estate is what I believe in and what I know,” Mwenda emphasized. “The more the banks said no, the more I learnt. Real estate needs patience.”
