Gilgil Member of Parliament Martha Wangari has confirmed that all arrangements have been finalized for the Utumishi Girls requiem mass set to take place at Gilgil Stadium on Friday.
The memorial service has been organized to honor the students who lost their lives in the tragic school fire and to provide an opportunity for families, friends, and the wider community to come together in prayer and remembrance.
Speaking on Thursday evening, Wangari said leaders, religious groups, and residents from across the region are expected to attend the event as the community continues to mourn the devastating loss. She emphasized the importance of standing together during this difficult period and offering support to the affected families.
According to the legislator, the requiem mass will serve as a moment of reflection, healing, and unity as mourners pay tribute to the young lives that were cut short.
She urged Kenyans to continue keeping the bereaved families in their prayers and to extend compassion to all those affected by the tragedy.
Authorities have also assured the public that adequate security and logistical measures have been put in place to ensure the event proceeds smoothly and peacefully.
Meanwhile, the government has announced a support package for the affected families, including a cash contribution of KSh200,000 to each bereaved household.
Assistance will also be provided to the family of Mama Faith Koskei, who reportedly died in a road accident while rushing to the school after learning about the fire.
In addition, the government has pledged to cover funeral expenses and waive all mortuary fees for the victims.
Investigations have since indicated that the deadly fire, which claimed the lives of 16 students, was a deliberate act of arson allegedly involving learners.
