The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) portal will open in March 2025 for students to apply for university placements ahead of the September intake, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has announced.

In a statement on Thursday, Ogamba also dismissed claims that the government had reinstated cut-off points for university admission, clarifying that students who scored C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE exam remain eligible for direct university entry.

“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for university admission. The minimum entry requirement remains a mean grade of C+, which will also apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort,” Ogamba stated.

According to the Education Ministry, a total of 264,391 students who met the university entry grade qualify for placement. The CS further revealed that financing these students will require Sh25.85 billion annually, translating to Sh100 billion over four years.

“As per the annual placement schedule, KUCCPS will open the application portal in March 2025 for students seeking university admission in September 2025,” he added.

Meanwhile, applications for Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) programs are already ongoing on the KUCCPS portal.
