Former Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi has taken the lead in a new poll tracking preferences in the emerging 2027 Westlands parliamentary race.

The Mwelekeo Insights survey shows Havi, who is associated with DCP, at 27.6%. Bernard Mwonyonyo follows closely at 24.1%.

Mike Gumo is third with 9.7%. Alex Matere, Alvin Olando and Moses Budamba Mudavadi each record 8.3%. Simon Komu follows at 7.5%, while Betty Adera records 6.2%.

The poll gives an early picture of preferences among people who participated in the Westlands survey.

It should not be treated as a prediction of the 2027 election because the published voting poll does not establish that its participants are a representative sample of all registered voters in the constituency.

Havi leads field

Havi’s 27.6% puts him 3.5 percentage points ahead of Mwonyonyo. The result comes as Havi prepares for another attempt at the Westlands parliamentary seat.

He contested the constituency in 2022 and finished second to incumbent MP Tim Wanyonyi. Wanyonyi received 58,408 votes while Havi received 19,550.

The latest field also brings together candidates associated with several political formations.

Gumo is listed under ODM, while Matere is associated with Linda Mwananchi. Olando is also listed under ODM.

Budamba Mudavadi and Adera are associated with UDA, while Komu is listed alongside Havi under DCP.

The figures show that the contest is still fragmented, with no candidate crossing the 30% mark among participants.

Mwelekeo tracks races

Mwelekeo Insights has been conducting constituency, county and national political polls ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Its recent work includes parliamentary surveys in Kamukunji, Embakasi South, Kisumu West and other constituencies, as well as gubernatorial and senatorial polls across several counties.

The Nairobi-based firm says its electoral research focuses on voter preferences, candidate popularity and public sentiment on governance.

The Westlands results therefore provide another snapshot of an increasingly active race.

For now, Havi records the highest share among participants, with Mwonyonyo remaining close behind and the rest of the field competing for a sizeable share of support.
