Angel Mbuthia leads Kiambu Woman Rep poll by Mwelekeo Insights with 45.7%

Angel Mbuthia has opened a commanding lead in the Kiambu County Woman Representative race after a Mwelekeo Insights survey placed her ahead of her rivals in one of Mt Kenya’s most politically watched contests.

The final results of the Kiambu County Women Representative Survey showed Mbuthia of Jubilee leading with 45.7 per cent, placing her in a strong position as the 2027 political realignments begin to take shape.

Evangelist Mercy Nungari of DCP came second with 24.8 per cent, while UDA’s Hon Ann Muratha followed with 22.7 per cent.

Independent candidate Rosemary Muthoni Kinuthia came fourth with 6.7 per cent, while undecided respondents stood at 0 per cent.

Jubilee momentum

The poll gives Jubilee a powerful political signal in Kiambu, a county that remains central to the battle for Mt Kenya ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mbuthia’s lead is not ordinary. She is ahead of candidates linked to DCP and UDA, two parties expected to fight aggressively for control of the Mt Kenya vote.

For Jubilee, the numbers offer fresh ammunition in a region where the party once dominated before UDA’s 2022 wave changed the political map.

The survey now suggests that Jubilee may still have life in Kiambu politics, especially where candidate strength, name recognition and local networks matter more than party slogans alone.

Mwelekeo Insights

Mwelekeo Insights is fast becoming one of Kenya’s most closely watched public sentiment research firms.

The Kenyan-based firm has built its name around bold political polling, electoral research, governance tracking, social studies, economic sentiment, consumer behaviour and public policy analysis.

In a political environment where many players rely on noise, propaganda and crowd estimates, Mwelekeo Insights is positioning itself as a data-first platform where public mood is measured, organised and presented in numbers.

That is why its polls are increasingly attracting attention from politicians, media houses, strategists and ordinary Kenyans seeking to understand where the country is moving politically.

The firm’s strength is its range.

It not only publishes election polls. It also tracks social attitudes, generational shifts, economic pressure, leadership perceptions and governance questions.

In the Kamukunji Member of Parliament survey, Mwelekeo Insights placed Simon Mbugua ahead with 63.1 per cent, followed by Yusuf Hassan at 21.4 per cent and Hussein Mohamed at 15.1 per cent.

In another study on young women and marriage, Mwelekeo found that only 29 per cent of women aged between 18 and 30 considered marriage an essential life goal, while 53 per cent said marriage was not a priority.

The same study found that 80 per cent prioritised financial stability and career growth over marriage, while 51 per cent were open to polygamous marriage if it would economically transform their lives.

Mwelekeo has also studied public perceptions of Gen Z after the June 2024 protests, examining how older Kenyans view youth activism, intergenerational tensions and the changing role of young people in national politics.

This is what makes Mwelekeo Insights stand out.
