The Odinga family has been plunged into grief once more following the sudden death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, the younger sister of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The news was confirmed on Monday through emotional statements shared by family members, marking yet another painful moment for one of Kenya’s most prominent political families.
Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga expressed the family’s deep sorrow while accepting the tragic loss as part of God’s will.
In her message, she described Beryl as a cherished daughter of the late Hon. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga, and a devoted mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai.

She further acknowledged Beryl’s close bonds with her siblings, including Senator Oburu Oginga, Raila Odinga, and Akinyi Wenwa, alongside their in-laws Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Ida Odinga, Hon. Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu.
Ruth noted that while the pain of Beryl’s death is immense, the family draws comfort from their faith, believing she now rests “in the Lord’s arms.”
She added that the family remains grateful for the moments they shared and for the lasting impact Beryl had on everyone who knew her.
Odinga Family Faces Another Loss
Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga echoed similar sentiments, stating that the family had accepted the sudden passing of his sister with humility and submission to divine will. He remembered Beryl as a loving mother and a strong pillar within the Odinga lineage.

The tragedy comes as the family continues healing from past losses, including the death of Raila Odinga on October 15, 2025—a moment that deeply shook the nation.
As tributes continue pouring in, Kenyans are mourning alongside the Odingas, honoring Beryl’s life and the legacy she leaves behind. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
