Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has secured the highest share in the latest Kiambu County governor poll, recording 29.2 per cent ahead of his political rivals as the battle for the county’s top seat ahead of the 2027 General Election begins to take shape.
The results released by Mwelekeo Insights, one of the most trusted research firms in Kenya, place the incumbent governor narrowly ahead of John Mwaura Kogi of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), who records 29 per cent. The two are separated by just 0.2 percentage points.
The Mwelekeo Insights findings bring fresh attention to Wamatangi’s political standing as he approaches the final year of his first term as Kiambu governor.
Wamatangi takes early lead
Wamatangi’s position in the poll comes against competition from several politicians seeking to influence the county’s leadership ahead of 2027.

Kogi emerges as his closest challenger with 29 per cent, while Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, listed under UDA, follows with 15.4 per cent.
Also, according to Mwelekeo Insights, former Kiambu Governor James Nyoro, listed under Jubilee, records 14.4 per cent, while former Governor William Kabogo of Tujibebe receives 9.9 per cent.
Other candidates collectively account for 2 per cent.
The results show a closely contested race between Wamatangi and Kogi, with both attracting substantially higher shares than the other named participants.
For Wamatangi, the poll places his leadership and record in office at the centre of the developing 2027 contest.
The governor, elected in 2022, previously served as Kiambu senator and has built his political career around community development, water access and public service.
His county administration has also highlighted programmes covering healthcare, roads, water infrastructure and support for local economic activities.

These initiatives form part of his public record as residents assess the county’s leadership ahead of the next election.
Kiambu race takes shape
The poll also highlights the competition Wamatangi faces from both emerging and established political figures.
With Kogi recording almost the same share, the results point to a competitive contest rather than a settled race.
The published figures reflect participation in an online voting poll. They do not establish the preferences of all registered Kiambu voters, and no representative sampling method or margin of error accompanies the supplied results.
As the 2027 General Election approaches, Wamatangi’s performance in office, the priorities of Kiambu residents and the campaigns of his challengers are likely to remain central issues in the gubernatorial contest.
