Political Ringside has once again did what it does best, helping the common mwananchi understand national issues without putting any effort.

In a latest episode, ODM Youth League Rapporteur Davis Bin Oluoch gave a frank assessment of Kenya’s Parliament, calling it the “worst in history.”

Hosted by Fridah Mong’are, the show unpacked how Parliament has drifted from its role as a representative institution, increasingly acting as a rubber stamp for executive decisions.

Political Ringside highlights parliamentary failures

Oluoch highlighted the Finance Bill 2024 as a key example of this failure. Despite widespread protests from young people on the streets rejecting the bill, MPs went ahead and passed it, resulting in tragic consequences, including the loss of young lives.

He argued that such decisions show Parliament prioritizes self-interest over public welfare and has largely ignored the principles of transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

The discussion also focused on ODM’s position. Oluoch defended the party, noting that no ODM member supported the controversial finance bill. He emphasized that ODM aims to gain state power to implement citizen-focused policies rather than remain a permanent opposition.

The episode explored the party’s collaboration with the government on the 10-point agenda, which seeks to advance national priorities such as youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, and social equity.

Political Ringside examines youth representation in politics

Youth representation in politics was another key issue. Oluoch revealed that only five out of 80 ODM MPs are young, warning that political parties deliberately weaken youth leagues by restricting resources and influence. This, he said, prevents young leaders from shaping policy and limits the impact of their advocacy.

The episode concluded with a call for young people to take initiative, consolidate efforts, and hold institutions accountable to Kenya’s founding ideals of justice, unity, liberty, and prosperity.

Political Ringside once again reinforced its reputation as a platform that brings complex political issues closer to ordinary citizens, giving viewers an informed, front-row perspective on the nation’s governance.
