The father of Albert Ojwang, the young man who died in police custody, has spoken out in deep pain, demanding justice for his son after shocking findings were revealed in an autopsy.

Meshack Ojwang spoke on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Nairobi Funeral Home and directed his questions to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat.

He asked why his son had to die in such a cruel manner and whether someone from the police leadership had a hand in it. With tears in his eyes, Meshack asked what his son did to deserve such brutality and why the truth was hidden in false reports.

He said the police report was a lie and that the autopsy finally showed what really happened. He added that the police looked down on their humble home and treated them like they didn’t matter.

Meshack went further to appeal to President William Ruto. He begged the president to help him get justice. He said his son did not deserve such a death and asked the head of state to look into the matter personally.

This public plea came shortly after the release of the autopsy results, which have caused a major uproar across the country. The autopsy was carried out by well-known forensic pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia and a team of five other experts. Their findings were very different from what the police had reported.

Dr. Midia confirmed that Albert Ojwang had suffered several injuries that pointed to a violent encounter. He made it clear that these injuries were not caused by Albert himself, as the police had claimed earlier.

This clear contradiction has raised a lot of concern about the honesty of the police and how they handle people in their custody. The fact that the police had initially claimed the injuries were self-inflicted now appears to be a clear attempt to cover up the truth.

Many Kenyans are now expressing anger and frustration. They are asking how many more young people have died this way without the public ever knowing.

There is a growing call for a full investigation into Albert’s death and for those responsible to be brought to justice. Human rights groups and ordinary citizens alike are demanding transparency and accountability from the police service.

The story of Albert Ojwang has touched many hearts, not just because of how he died, but also because of the deep pain and courage shown by his father in seeking justice.

The pressure is now on the government to act and ensure that such a tragic death does not go unpunished.
