New footage has revealed shocking details linking a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer to the fatal shooting of a protester during the chaotic June 25th demonstrations outside Parliament.

A BBC documentary shared chilling video showing a man dressed in army gear a green helmet, tan boots, and a rifle firing at protesters.

He was standing just 25 meters away from Eric Shieni, a young man who was peacefully calling for better leadership. Moments later, Shieni was dead.

The exposé has left Kenyans demanding answers. Many are asking why a military officer, who should not have been policing protests, was inside Parliament on that deadly day.

After the shooting, the officer was the only one still wearing a full army uniform, raising even more questions about his role and who sent him there.

Shieni, a University of Nairobi graduate and certified accountant, had joined thousands of others to protest against the Finance Bill 2024. His family has spoken out, saying he was fighting for fairness and not seeking to harm anyone.

The protests, sparked by anger over the government’s controversial bill, turned violent across the country. Over 30 people died, and more than 300 were injured, according to human rights groups.

Law Society of Kenya President, Faith Odhiambo, condemned the killing, saying Shieni did not deserve to be shot. “He should have been arrested if he did anything wrong, not killed in cold blood,” she said.

Following the uproar, President William Ruto withdrew the Finance Bill, promising talks with all stakeholders to find a way forward.

Investigations into the deadly shooting are still ongoing as Kenyans continue to demand justice for Shieni and others who lost their lives.
