Nairobi businesswoman and 2027 gubernatorial hopeful Agnes Kagure has thrown her weight behind a growing youth driven push for voter registration, amplifying the “Niko Kadi” movement as momentum builds towards the next General Election.

In a Facebook post, Kagure praised the energy behind the initiative and linked it to a broader civic awakening among the youth. She said the mobilisation reflects a generation that is increasingly aware of its role in shaping the country’s political future.

“I am encouraged by our youth driving the ‘niko kadi’ movement, alongside initiatives like MBOGI NA MAMA, all working to get more youth registered as voters.

“This kind of coordination and awareness shows a generation that understands the importance of participation and choosing to be part of decisions that shape your future. I stand with every young person taking that step. Hata mimi niko kadi,” she wrote.

Youth mobilisation gains ground

The “Niko Kadi” campaign, loosely translated to mean “I have a voter’s card”, has been gaining visibility across Nairobi, particularly on social media platforms where young people are urging peers to register in large numbers ahead of 2027.

The movement has been bolstered by grassroots initiatives such as MBOGI NA MAMA, which focus on civic education and community level sensitisation. Organisers say the aim is to reverse low youth turnout witnessed in previous elections by making voter registration both accessible and relatable.

Kagure’s endorsement is seen as a significant boost to the campaign, given her growing influence among urban voters and her consistent engagement with youth centred issues.

Kagure’s 2027 ambitions take shape

Kagure, a Nairobi based entrepreneur, has steadily positioned herself as a contender for the city’s top seat in 2027. Her public engagements have largely centred on social support programmes, disaster response and advocacy on issues affecting residents.

She has been visible during crises such as flooding, where she has supported affected families, and has often taken a strong stance on policies she says impact ordinary Nairobians.

Her allies argue that this consistent presence has helped her build a reputation as a responsive and people focused leader, particularly among low income communities.

Political observers note that early mobilisation efforts targeting youth voters could play a decisive role in the 2027 race, especially in Nairobi where young people form a significant portion of the electorate.

With the voter registration drive gaining pace, Kagure’s alignment with the “Niko Kadi” movement signals a strategy that places youth participation at the centre of her campaign narrative as the countdown to 2027 continues.
