Armed bandits fled after exchanging fire with security officers at Oltungai Plateau in Isiolo County, abandoning a herd of stolen sheep and goats that was later recovered.

The National Police Service (NPS) said the incident happened on Monday, November 2, 2026, after officers received intelligence that armed bandits had raided Archers in Samburu East and were driving stolen livestock towards Manyatta Zebra in Isiolo.

A multi-agency security team under Operation Maliza Uhalifu immediately launched a pursuit, tracking the raiders to Oltungai Plateau.

An intense exchange of fire followed, forcing the bandits to flee and leaving the livestock behind.

The officers recovered 75 sheep and goats, which were later identified and returned to their rightful owners.

The operation came a day before another major recovery in Loiyangalani Sub-County, Marsabit County, where security officers recovered 3,000 stolen sheep and goats.

According to the NPS, the animals had been stolen from herders migrating their livestock from Mouwokiteng towards Lardapach.

The herders were reportedly ambushed by armed bandits who seized the animals and drove them towards Arapal.

A multi-agency team was mobilised and intercepted the raiders, recovering all 3,000 animals.

The two operations brought the total number of recovered livestock to 3,075 within two days across the northern Kenya region.

The NPS commended security agencies and local communities for sharing intelligence and supporting the operations.

It urged residents to report suspicious activities through the nearest police station or the emergency numbers 999 and 911.
