Jubilee party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has revealed the party’s plan to exit the official opposition and the Azimio la umoja one Kenya alliance.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with a local publication, said the party felt left in the cold during coalition negotiations led by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Kioni states that the opposition coalition does not seem to have given Jubilee a good place in the 2027 succession strategy which is making the party rethink its position.

Kioni stated that Kalonzo has been taking part in coalition building activities without consulting the Jubilee party even when they are a major player in the opposition. He contended that Jubilee as a party has strong political muscles and must be at the center of such discussions.

“Kalonzo was pushing for a coalition plan without involving us, yet we are among the largest parties in Azimio, in fact even larger than Wiper,” Kioni said.

The secretary-general went further in his claims, saying that they were being subjected to exclusion as a result of the mechanism of Mike Sonko being used as a bane to Jubilee opposition strategies.

This stance sets the stage for an intense political contest within the opposition, as Jubilee seeks to reclaim its influence and reassert itself as a dominant force. The party’s departure from Azimio, if confirmed, would significantly alter the opposition landscape, potentially weakening efforts to mount a united front against President William Ruto in 2027.
