Silas Jakakimba has warned against attempts to weaken political support for President William Ruto in the Luo community, insisting that the region should maintain its place in the broad-based government arrangement championed by Raila Odinga.
In a statement issued in Kisumu on Thursday, October 15, 2026, Jakakimba invoked Raila’s political legacy to defend cooperation with Ruto’s administration, arguing that the community should not return to confrontational opposition politics.
Jakakimba rejects opposition politics
Jakakimba said attempts to reverse the community’s political cooperation with Ruto would face resistance, presenting the broad-based arrangement as a continuation of Raila’s political vision.

“As we reflect on the Life, Times and Legacy of Baba HE Raila Odinga, I want to put this for the record – any veiled attempts to push back the collective resolve of the Luo Nation to work with and support President Ruto’s transformative administration, won’t and can’t find currency amongst our folks,” he stated.
He maintained that Raila had helped establish a new political direction for the community before his death.
“With HE Odinga’s firm leadership, The Luo Nation long collectively resolved to drop all and any forms of hard-ball Oppositionist politics,” Jakakimba said.
The remarks signal Jakakimba’s opposition to political forces seeking to challenge the cooperation between Ruto’s administration and leaders associated with Raila’s political movement.
However, his assertion that the Luo community collectively supports the arrangement represents his political position rather than a demonstrated consensus among residents.

Raila’s legacy and Ruto alliance
Jakakimba argued that decades of political confrontation had come at a heavy cost to the Luo community, citing Raila’s sacrifices in the struggle for democratic reforms.
He said the region should now prioritise development and political cooperation rather than prolonged opposition to successive governments.
“Odinga’s decades-old personal life-threatening sacrifices pushing for good governance and a better nation for all, the many limbs lost and blood of our sons and daughters shed in the streets over the past decades, must and do qualify to be the last atonement for the urgent de-marginalization of the Luo Nation,” he stated.
Jakakimba further maintained that cooperation between Raila and Ruto had established a political direction that should continue beyond the former Prime Minister’s death.
“We shall continue to push harder and align to both HE Raila Odinga’s and President Ruto’s shared dream of a more equal, united, peaceful and developed Nation,” he said.

He pointed to national government development projects in Nyanza as justification for continued cooperation, although his statement did not identify specific projects or provide implementation figures.
“Kenya FIRST under HE President William Samoei Ruto because Usawa, ni SAWA. And Nyanza, is not remaining behind,” Jakakimba concluded.
