Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has landed in the frying pan again after a county askari reportedly took his own life by jumping from the sixth floor of the Annex City Building..

The shocking incident has thrown the spotlight back on the chaos and suffering inside City Hall under Sakaja’s leadership.

Many Nairobians are furious. They say the governor has time for TikTok challenges, flashy photo ops and public shows, but no time to fix the real problems affecting workers and residents. County askaris and junior staff continue to work in harsh conditions, with little or no support.

Many are paid late or not at all. Some sleep in offices or go hungry. Yet Sakaja moves around like a celebrity, smiling for cameras, dancing for social media likes.

What kind of leader ignores his own workers until one of them dies? That is the question being asked across the city. People are wondering how many more will suffer before the governor wakes up. The man who died was someone’s son. A young Kenyan trying to earn a living. But City Hall gave him stress instead of support. Pain instead of pay. Silence instead of solutions.

Sakaja came into office with big promises. He talked about changing Nairobi. He said he would clean up the rot. But now, almost two years later, the rot has grown worse. Corruption continues. Services are broken.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja gestures after a past rally

Garbage fills the streets. County clinics lack medicine. Youths remain jobless. And City Hall insiders claim money is still being looted like before. Some believe Sakaja is part of the looting. Why else would he keep quiet?

People are tired of speeches and dancing. Nairobi is not a TikTok set. It is a capital city with millions of people who need working systems and honest leadership. This death should be a wake-up call. But knowing Sakaja, he might post another video instead of facing the truth.

The family of the fallen askari deserves answers. Nairobi workers deserve dignity. And the people deserve a governor who works, not one who entertains.
