The father of late KCB Head of Data Protection Rosemary Koech Kimwatu has broken his silence amid emerging narratives surrounding his daughter’s death, saying the family had no doubts about the support she received from the bank.
In a statement shared on social media, Paul Koech said the family believed KCB gave Rosemary the necessary space and support to develop her career.
“We as the parents of Rosemary Koech have no doubts in our minds that KCB accorded Rosemary all the necessary space and support to thrive and be the best she could in her career ladder,” he said.
Paul added that the bank stood with the family both during Rosemary’s illness and following her death.
He said KCB provided assistance whenever the family required help, expressing gratitude for the institution’s support.
“In sickness and at her demise, KCB stood with the family and came through where help was required. We are forever grateful,” he added.
His remarks come days after Rosemary’s death triggered widespread mourning across Kenya’s technology, legal, fintech and data protection communities.
Rosemary died at her home in Ngong on Friday, August 21, 2026. She had served as KCB Group’s Head of Data Protection after joining the bank in 2022 as a Data Protection Officer. She was promoted to the head of the department in June 2023.
Her death has since generated discussions about her professional life, with some online reports making claims about her experiences at work. However, reputable reports have noted that the circumstances surrounding her death had not been publicly disclosed.
Paul’s statement now provides the family’s position on KCB’s relationship with Rosemary and the support it offered her and her relatives.
He also appealed for restraint as the family mourns.
“Whatever narratives are going on does not represent the family stand and we wish to be allowed to mourn our dear child in peace.”
Rosemary was also a prominent figure beyond KCB, having participated in Kenya’s technology policy, internet governance, and data protection sectors. She served on the KICTANet board and held other roles within the country’s digital policy ecosystem.
Her father’s statement therefore marks the clearest public indication yet of the family’s position on the narratives surrounding her death.
