A delegation of prominent Kenyan women leaders has arrived in New York to take part in the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

The team includes Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Kisumu West MP Rozaah Buyu, and Ida Odinga, wife of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. They are joining other women leaders from Kenya and across the world for discussions on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

According to a statement shared by Homa Bay County on March 11, 2025, the session will focus on assessing challenges that hinder progress in achieving gender equality and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“The sixty-ninth session will assess current challenges affecting the implementation of the Platform for Action and the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of women,” read part of the statement.

Governor Wanga, in a message posted on her official social media accounts, expressed her enthusiasm for participating in the high-level global forum.

“Touching down at the #CSW2025, where policy meets passion and global voices unite for gender equality. Honoured to stand alongside Min Piny Canon Dr. Ida Odinga, H.E Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Mhesh. Rozaah Buyu, and other women leaders ready to challenge, learn, and empower,” she stated.

The Commission on the Status of Women serves as the UN’s principal intergovernmental platform dedicated to promoting gender equality. The annual session provides an opportunity for global leaders to review progress, share experiences, and propose new commitments to advancing women’s rights.
