Nick Mararo

Nyeri County senatorial aspirant Nick Mararo has maintained his lead in a live public opinion survey, reinforcing his position in the race to succeed outgoing Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to the latest results released by Swiss Poll International, Mararo leads the highly contested survey with 1,119 votes, translating to 25.3 percent support among respondents across Nyeri County.

The Jubilee Party aspirant is followed by Independent candidate Kabando wa Kabando, who has garnered 956 votes, representing 21.6 percent support. Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Duncan Gituanja is in third place with 922 votes, equivalent to 20.9 percent support.

The poll, which has attracted 4,419 verified participants from across Nyeri County, places Mararo at the top of a crowded field that includes Kabando wa Kabando, Duncan Gituanja, Macharia Muriithi, Kingori Wanjohi, Governor Mutahi Kahiga and David Kahome.

Mararo retains lead

The latest survey results indicate that Mararo continues to hold an advantage over his closest rivals as political competition in Nyeri County intensifies ahead of the next General Election.

His 25.3 percent share places him ahead of Kabando wa Kabando by 163 votes and ahead of Duncan Gituanja by 197 votes, highlighting a competitive but clear lead in the race.

Political observers note that while the contest remains open, Mararo’s ability to remain at the top of the rankings suggests he has established a strong support base across different parts of the county.

Kabando and Gituanja close behind

The survey shows a tight battle for second place, with Kabando wa Kabando securing 21.6 percent support compared to Duncan Gituanja’s 20.9 percent.

The narrow margin between the two candidates suggests that the race for the Nyeri Senate seat remains highly fluid, with voter preferences likely to shift as campaigns gain momentum.

Meanwhile, Macharia Muriithi secured 18.2 percent support after attracting 804 votes, keeping him firmly within striking distance of the leading pack.

Competitive field emerges

The survey also highlights the presence of several other candidates seeking to influence the outcome of the race.

Kingori Wanjohi received 467 votes, representing 10.6 percent support. Independent candidate Governor Mutahi Kahiga attracted 112 votes, equivalent to 2.5 percent support, while David Kahome garnered 30 votes or 0.7 percent.

Nine respondents, representing 0.2 percent of participants, indicated that they remained undecided.

Political momentum building

With political activity expected to intensify as the 2027 election approaches, opinion polls continue to provide an indication of voter sentiment across Nyeri County.

The latest Swiss Poll International survey suggests that Nick Mararo currently enjoys the strongest support among respondents. However, with Kabando wa Kabando, Duncan Gituanja and Macharia Muriithi all attracting significant backing, the race remains one of the most competitive political contests taking shape in the Mt Kenya region.

For now, the survey places Mararo at the top of the leaderboard, giving the Jubilee Party hopeful an early boost as he seeks to become the next Senator for Nyeri County.
