Kenyans on X have ganged up against the admin of the ODM Party for sharing a fake Arsenal Football Club statement mourning the late Raila Odinga.
Through its official X handle on Thursday, October 16, 2025, ODM posted a press statement purportedly from the English Premier League club, claiming it was an official condolence message from Arsenal.
In the statement, Arsenal Football Club allegedly extended its condolences to the people of Kenya and the family and friends of the late Raila Odinga.
“Arsenal Football Club extends its deepest condolences to the people of Kenya and to the family and friends of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
“We join millions across Africa and around the world in mourning the loss of a visionary leader, statesman, and passionate supporter of progress and unity.
“His lifelong dedication to democracy and justice will forever remain an inspiration to generations,” read part of the statement.

The message further claimed that the club’s prayers were with Raila’s family and the people of Kenya, adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Kenyan nation, and all who were touched by his leadership and compassion. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Minutes after the post went up, sharp-eyed Kenyans questioned the credibility of the letter, pointing out grammatical inconsistencies and the absence of the message on Arsenal’s verified social media pages. Many users dismissed the statement as fake, accusing ODM’s social media handlers of being duped or creating the content themselves.
“That’s not British English. No sane Briton mentions ‘supporter’. Kizungu ya Kondele hii,” one X user commented, mocking the wording of the message.
Another one questioned the source of the statement, saying, “Was this sent via email ju haiko anywhere in their social media platforms.”
The criticism intensified as more users joined the conversation. “Baba was many things but not a liar or an attention seeker. I just hope you guys had not handed your logins to Itumbi,” another user wrote, referring to the controversial political blogger Dennis Itumbi.
Others sarcastically wondered if the statement came from another Arsenal altogether. “Arsenal wondering if there’s another Arsenal in the world,” one Kenyan commented.
