Kalonzo exposes next Governor to be arrested and why

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made a sensational claim that Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is the target of an imminent arrest allegedly orchestrated by state agencies.

Speaking during a political event in Machakos on Sunday, Kalonzo stated that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has obtained a search warrant to raid Natembeya’s residence on Monday, May 19.

According to Kalonzo, the move is politically motivated and aimed at tarnishing the image of the outspoken county boss.

“Governor Natembeya is being threatened. They want to arrest him and then release him just to humiliate him before the people of Trans Nzoia,” Kalonzo said.

He further alleged that dissenting county leaders are increasingly becoming targets of state harassment.

“If you’re a governor and you don’t align with those in power, they will send EACC after you,” he added, cautioning against the misuse of independent institutions for political gain.

The embattled governor has recently faced mounting pressure, with Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei leading calls for his impeachment.

Cherargei has accused Natembeya of tribalism, poor governance, and corruption charges the governor has dismissed as politically instigated.

“Why is a Nandi senator meddling in Trans Nzoia affairs? Let him sort out issues in his own county,” Natembeya fired back on April 18, accusing Cherargei of stirring unnecessary political drama.

Kalonzo also linked the alleged plot against Natembeya to a broader crackdown on outspoken leaders, citing the recent arrest of Mumias East MP Peter Salasya.

The MP, who has declared interest in the 2027 presidency, was reportedly detained by DCI officers on Friday after a rally in Isiolo. Kalonzo insists the MP is being held without any formal charges at Nairobi Central Police Station.

“These moves are aimed at silencing leaders who speak out,” Kalonzo warned, vowing that leaders from the Azimio coalition would resist such intimidation.

As tensions build, all eyes will be on Monday’s developments in Trans Nzoia as the political showdown intensifies.
