JB Muturi has called on the National Security Council to investigate concerns over Kenyan ID issuance in border communities, warning that citizenship, border security and electoral integrity require urgent scrutiny.
In a statement on Sunday, September 27, 2026, Muturi said Ukombozi Alliance wanted the council to establish the facts and take lawful action ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
Border registration concerns
“Ukombozi Alliance urgently calls on the National Security Council to investigate concerns surrounding the issuance of Kenyan identification documents across border communities, establish the facts and take appropriate lawful action,” he said.
Muturi linked the appeal to what he described as heightened calls for identification documents over the weekend, with the country approaching an election year.

“This weekend, we have witnessed heightened calls for ID issuance at a time when the country is heading into an election year, raising legitimate questions that require scrutiny,” he said.
“Questions of citizenship, national identification, border security and electoral integrity are too serious to be handled casually or allowed to escalate.”
He urged the council to intervene, saying public confidence in Kenya’s identification system and the electoral process needed protection.
“The National Security Council must act now to protect the integrity of Kenya’s identification system, national security and public confidence in the electoral process,” Muturi said.
The statement did not specify which border communities were involved or give figures on identification documents issued. It also did not identify applicants whose citizenship or eligibility for Kenyan identification was disputed.
Warning to chiefs
Muturi also cautioned chiefs and other officers involved in population registration, warning of scrutiny after the next general election.
“We further caution chiefs and other public officers responsible for population registration that population data and identification records will be subject to scrutiny and audit after 2027 General Elections,” he said.

“Any officer found to have unlawfully facilitated registration, falsified records or breached the law will be held personally accountable through the appropriate legal processes.”
The statement did not name individual officers or identify specific cases of unlawful registration.
“This is a matter that demands transparency, accountability and urgent action before it gets out of hand,” Muturi said.
