Questions have emerged following the death of former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo after a road crash along the Naivasha–Nairobi highway. What began as a routine traffic investigation has now taken a different direction after it was discovered that a pistol believed to belong to the late lawmaker could not be found.

According to preliminary information, Mr Jirongo was travelling in his vehicle when the accident occurred. Investigators believe that he was carrying a firearm at the time of the incident, as he was known to move with a licensed gun.

When emergency responders and police officers arrived at the scene and later recovered his body from the wrecked vehicle, the pistol was missing.

This unexpected discovery raised concerns and prompted further action by the authorities.

Due to the seriousness of the matter, detectives from the homicide unit were brought in to assist with the investigation. Their involvement is meant to help establish how the firearm disappeared and whether any criminal activity may have taken place before or after the crash.

The case is no longer being treated as a simple traffic matter, as officers seek to understand the full sequence of events surrounding the former MP’s final moments.

Rift Valley Regional Traffic Commander Sara Chumo confirmed that homicide detectives were urgently requested to take over part of the inquiry. She explained that the missing gun is a key issue that must be clearly addressed to avoid speculation and to ensure all facts are properly established.

The commander noted that every detail, no matter how small, could be important in helping investigators reach accurate conclusions.

Strict security measures have been enforced at the Naivasha police station where the wreckage of the vehicle is being held.

Access to the damaged car has been restricted to authorised officers only. This move is aimed at preserving the scene and protecting any possible evidence that may still be inside or around the vehicle.

Police officials say these precautions are necessary to prevent interference with the investigation. Any form of unauthorised access could compromise the integrity of the evidence and affect the outcome of the case. Officers are carefully documenting and examining the wreckage as part of the wider probe.

The authorities have urged the public to remain patient as the investigation unfolds. They have also asked anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has information about the missing firearm to come forward.

The focus remains on establishing what happened to the pistol and ensuring that all questions surrounding Cyrus Jirongo’s death are answered through a thorough and professional investigation.
