Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga is facing renewed criticism after the son of a deceased county supplier accused her of ignoring repeated appeals to settle a KSh10 million pending bill, saying the delay left the family struggling with hospital, mortuary and burial expenses after his father’s death.
In a Facebook post published on Thursday, Maina KE said his family repeatedly appealed to Governor Wanga while his father was still alive, urging the county government to release the money so they could pay mounting hospital bills. He said the family received repeated promises that payment would be made, but nothing was forthcoming.
“We appealed to Governor Gladys Wanga when my father was still alive to at least pay us so that we could see him through hospitals and the accumulating bills. She ignored. Years went on with reminders and constant promises that never came to fruition,” Maina wrote.
According to Maina, his father later died before the payment was made.
He said the family reached out to the governor again after the death, hoping the funds would help offset KSh800,000 in hospital, mortuary and burial expenses.

“He finally passed on. Another statistic of Homa Bay County Pending Bills. We reached out again to her that now mzee is gone, the accumulating cost of pending hospital bills, mortuary and associated burial costs totals to KSh800K. We buried him,” he wrote.
Maina said the family has continued following up on the payment since the burial but has not received the money.
He also urged Governor Wanga to settle the outstanding amount, saying the financial burden had deeply affected his family.
“We are not children of a lesser God. Just pay us our money. Your political career is none of our business,” he wrote.
The latest post follows an earlier public appeal in which Maina shared screenshots of WhatsApp conversations in which he sought payment from the governor, saying years of waiting had taken a heavy toll on his family.
