Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has likened himself to ODM Party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who has of late been at loggerheads with top party officials.

Through his X handle on Friday, August 1, 2025, the outspoken lawmaker said he now understands how frustrating it can be to support political leaders who do not appreciate loyal foot soldiers.

According to Salasya, just like Sifuna, who often finds himself on the receiving end of tough treatment from ODM leader Raila Odinga, he has also been blindsided after putting his energy into defending someone who did not return the favour.

He did not shy away from expressing disappointment, admitting he has learned his lesson and will now focus on building what he started on his terms.

Salasya sends an apology to Natembeya

In the same post, Salasya extended a heartfelt apology to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya for what he described as a harsh attack made without knowing the full picture.

He confessed that his earlier criticism of Natembeya was misguided, and now he is also under the bus, just like the governor had been before.

The first-time MP said defending politicians in Kenya is a tough task and sometimes unrewarding. While making fun of the situation, he said politics in Kenya can humble even the most vocal supporters. His apology signals a shift in tone as he seeks to focus on his own agenda away from party politics.

Eugene Wamalwa responds with a challenge

Salasya’s emotional post came hours after DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa publicly addressed him and Governor Natembeya. In his own X post, Wamalwa said the two leaders do not need to leave the party or stage any coup to chase their ambitions.

He welcomed both of them to compete against him for the party’s presidential ticket in what he promised would be a free and fair nomination process.

Wamalwa added that DAP-K is a democratic party that supports political aspirations through open and internal systems and urged the two to avoid dirty public confrontations.
