Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has launched a scathing attack on former ODM Party stalwarts who are now Cabinet Secretaries in President William Ruto’s government, accusing them of abandoning their principles and turning into government apologists.

In a fiery statement, Kajwang singled out John Mbadi, Wycliffe Oparanya, and Hassan Joho, saying the trio—once key figures in ODM’s resistance against the Kenya Kwanza administration have become some of Ruto’s loudest defenders.

“The so-called ODM experts in government have become sycophants. It’s a shame to be associated with them,” Kajwang said during a public address in Homa Bay on Thursday.

Kajwang questioned how the former opposition figures, who previously spearheaded protests, led parliamentary walkouts, and vocally called for President Ruto’s resignation, could now so passionately defend the same government they once condemned.

“Mbadi was on the frontlines, leading demonstrations and even calling Ruto an enemy of the people. Now he’s singing praises. What changed? Is it principle or just position?” Kajwang asked.

John Mbadi, formerly a fierce critic of the Kenya Kwanza regime and a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga, was known for his fiery speeches on the floor of Parliament and in political rallies.

He once led calls to impeach Ruto and claimed the then Deputy President had “no moral authority to lead.” Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho, former governors of Kakamega and Mombasa respectively, also played central roles in ODM’s pushback against Ruto’s ascendancy to power.

Kajwang’s remarks have reignited debate over loyalty and political opportunism, with many in ODM feeling betrayed by the quiet defection of former party heavyweights who have since embraced roles in the Kenya Kwanza government.
