Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has gone after ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s jugular in a hard-hitting post on X. In his Sunday, July 27, 2025 post, Miguna questioned the rationale behind Kenyan diaspora members in the United States hosting Gachagua during his recent visit.

Miguna accused Gachagua of hypocrisy, stating that for over three decades in government, the former DP never championed the interests of Kenyans abroad.

“I plead with the Kenyan US Diaspora who are hosting Rigathi Gachagua to enlighten me,” Miguna began, reminding his audience that Gachagua had served under Presidents Daniel arap Moi, Uhuru Kenyatta, and William Ruto for a combined 35 years.

“Not once during those years did he speak for the diaspora, visit them, or influence policy in their favor,” Miguna noted.

He went on to criticize Gachagua’s recent efforts to woo the diaspora, terming them opportunistic now that the former DP is in “political wilderness.” Miguna accused Gachagua of offering token promises such as Senate and County Assembly nominations, instead of advocating for diaspora inclusion in national governance.

“He never even acknowledged the diaspora’s contribution to Kenya’s economy,” Miguna stated. “Now he promises nominations, not equal partnership.”

Miguna also took aim at diaspora Kenyans for supporting Gachagua despite his record.

“You still see villagers working two to three jobs cheering, clapping, and sponsoring his ethnic jingoistic agenda,” he said, warning that Gachagua is no different from leaders of Kenya’s past regimes.

Miguna described Gachagua as “as deceptive as Moi, Uhuru, Ruto, and Raila,” and challenged his supporters to explain why anyone should trust his new promises after decades of silence and complicity.

The scathing attack adds to growing online criticism over Gachagua’s international charm offensive, with some questioning whether it is genuine outreach or political repositioning.
