Kenya Met: Expect reduced rainfall across the country this week

The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecasted a notable decline in rainfall amounts across the country over the next week.

However, occasional showers are still expected in select areas, according to the latest weather update covering the period from Tuesday, April 1, to Monday, April 7, 2025.

Temperature Outlook

During the day, temperatures are projected to surpass 30 degrees Celsius in parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions. Meanwhile, nighttime temperatures could drop below 10 degrees Celsius in areas within the Central Highlands and Central Rift Valley.

Regional Weather Breakdown

  • Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Rift Valley & Lake Victoria Basin
    Counties including Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Baringo, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot will likely experience morning rains, afternoon showers, and thunderstorms, with a few areas receiving night showers.
  • North-western Region (Turkana & Samburu)
    Sunny intervals are expected in the morning and afternoon, while nights will remain partly cloudy.
  • Highlands East of the Rift Valley & Nairobi
    Counties including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi will have cloudy mornings, followed by sunny intervals. Afternoon and night showers are expected in some places.
  • North-eastern Region (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa & Isiolo)
    These areas will experience morning rain, occasional afternoon showers, and partly cloudy nights.
  • South-eastern Lowlands (Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado & Taita Taveta)
    The region will have sunny intervals during the day, with a chance of afternoon showers and partly cloudy conditions at night.
  • Coastal Region (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale & Tana River)
    Showers are expected throughout the day and night in these areas.

Rainfall Trends

The previous week saw rainfall across various parts of the country, with some areas in the Highlands, Rift Valley, South-eastern lowlands, Coast, and North-eastern Kenya recording heavy downpours.

The Meteorological Department continues to monitor weather patterns and advises the public to stay updated on forecasts for any changes in conditions.
