A wave of grief has swept through Bomet County following the tragic death of a prison warder whose body was discovered inside her house in Sotik town, raising fresh calls for justice and stronger efforts to address violence in communities.
The officer, identified as Abigael Chepkemoi, was attached to Sotik Prison at the time of her death. Her body was found on Friday, prompting police to launch investigations to establish what happened and bring those responsible to justice.
According to Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge, early investigations suggest the incident could be linked to a suspected love triangle.
However, he stressed that detectives are still gathering evidence and have not reached a final conclusion on the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Choge said officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and scenes of crime personnel have already visited the scene and collected evidence that will help in the investigation.
He assured the public that police will provide more information once the investigations are complete.
The shocking incident has left residents of Sotik in disbelief, with many expressing sadness over the loss of a young officer who had dedicated her life to serving the country. Police have appealed to members of the public to come forward with any information that could help identify and arrest those behind the murder.
Chepkemoi’s body was moved to Kaplong Mission Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved as authorities prepare for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei described the incident as heartbreaking and called for justice to be served without delay.
The senator urged families and communities to embrace peaceful ways of resolving disagreements instead of resorting to violence.
He said the country cannot continue losing young people over conflicts that can be settled through dialogue.
Sigei further called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that whoever committed the crime is arrested and prosecuted.
He said holding those responsible accountable would not only deliver justice to Chepkemoi’s family but also serve as a warning against similar acts of violence.
