Nevnina Onyango, the widow of the late Albert Ojwang, has shared the deeply personal journey she faces as she raises their young son without his father.

Speaking during an interview on Mwelekeo TV hosted by Fridah Mong’are, Nevnina reflected on the difficult responsibility of helping her child understand the painful truth about his father’s death while ensuring he grows up with hope rather than bitterness.

Albert Ojwang died while in police custody in a case that attracted widespread public attention across Kenya. His death sparked many questions and left his family dealing with a painful loss.

For Nevnina, however, the greatest challenge is not only coping with her own grief but also preparing for the day her son begins asking questions about the father he never had the chance to know.

She admitted that one of the thoughts that weighs heavily on her mind is the possibility that her son will one day come across stories about Albert on social media.

As he grows older and becomes more aware of the world around him, she knows it will be impossible to shield him from information about what happened.

Instead of waiting until that moment arrives unexpectedly, Nevnina said she wants to prepare him gradually. She believes her son deserves to know the truth about his father, but in a way that helps him understand the events without allowing anger or hatred to shape his life.

She explained that her goal is to give him the right context so he can grow into a person who values peace, wisdom, and good character.

To explain her approach, Nevnina referred to a Swahili proverb that teaches that the values planted in a child from an early age help shape the adult they eventually become. She said this belief has guided the way she intends to raise her son despite the painful circumstances surrounding their family’s loss.

According to Nevnina, faith will play a central role in her son’s upbringing. She said she plans to take him to church regularly and ensure he grows up in an environment that teaches love, respect, and compassion.

She believes these values will help him become a responsible and kind person, regardless of the difficult story behind his father’s death.

She also spoke about preserving Albert Ojwang’s memory in a positive way. Rather than allowing her son to remember his father only through tragic headlines or conversations online, she wants him to know the kind of person Albert was and the values he stood for.

She believes this approach will give her son a stronger sense of identity and purpose as he grows.Nevnina’s remarks reflected the difficult balance many parents face after losing a loved one.

She is determined not to hide the truth from her son, but she is equally committed to introducing it carefully and at the right time.

In her view, understanding should come with guidance, love, and emotional support instead of confusion or resentment.

As she continues rebuilding life after Albert Ojwang’s death, Nevnina remains focused on giving her son the best future possible.

Her hope is that he will grow into a man who remembers his father with pride while choosing a path guided by faith, good values, and a desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
