A Jubilee Party meeting in Nakuru on Tuesday was briefly interrupted after a snake slithered onto the dais where leaders and supporters were seated.
The unexpected moment happened while Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka was addressing the gathering, drawing shock and confusion from people in attendance.
At first, Senator Onyonka tried to keep everyone calm. He told the crowd not to panic and suggested they ignore the snake so the meeting could continue. Despite his efforts, some supporters became uneasy and quickly moved away from the area, causing a short disruption and forcing organizers to pause the event for safety reasons.
Security and event officials moved in to manage the situation as people tried to create distance from the snake. The tension lasted only a short time before calm was restored and attendees returned to their seats. Once the situation settled, the meeting resumed without further problems.
In a lighter moment after order was restored, Senator Onyonka joked with the crowd and asked whether President William Ruto had sent the snake. He asked, “Ruto ametuma nyoka hapa?” The crowd responded loudly with “Ndiyo! Ndiyo!”, which led to laughter and cheers among those present. The humorous exchange helped ease the tension that had built during the disruption.
The event was also attended by Jubilee Party presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i and several senior party officials and local aspirants from Nakuru County.
Matiang’i has recently increased his efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots presence across the country. His team plans to open new party offices in different regions, including Nyandarua, Murang’a, Nyamira, and Kisii, before the end of the month.
Despite the unusual interruption, the meeting continued as planned and leaders used the platform to engage supporters and discuss the party’s ongoing activities and future plans.
