Renowned lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has raised serious claims on X, formerly Twitter, accusing a judge from Kenya’s Supreme Court of accepting a bribe but failing to fulfill the agreement. According to Ahmednasir, the judge received Kshs 4 million from a lawyer and their client with the promise of influencing a Court of Appeal decision, but after the case went against them, the judge refused to refund the money.

Ahmednasir stated that the incident took place about a month ago. He explained that the lawyer and the client met with the Supreme Court judge and discussed a case that was already in the Court of Appeal and awaiting judgment from three judges.

The judge reportedly told them that he or she could influence the ruling and claimed that two of the three appellate judges were under their control.

The bribe amount was allegedly agreed to be Kshs 6 million. The judge is said to have asked for Kshs 4 million as a deposit with the promise that the remaining Kshs 2 million would be paid after the favorable ruling.

According to Ahmednasir, the lawyer and the client paid the Kshs 4 million and waited, believing the case would be decided in their favor. However, the judgment came out, and they lost. It was only then, Ahmednasir claims, that the lawyer and client realized the judge had never followed through or even spoken to the appellate judges.

Feeling cheated, they went back to the judge and demanded their money back, but the judge allegedly refused. Ahmednasir revealed that the refusal to refund the money has created serious dispute between the judge and the parties who paid the bribe. He warned that if the issue is not handled properly, it could turn into a physical confrontation.

He added that he only went public with the story because the aggrieved parties asked him to do so, hoping to bring attention to the matter. Although these claims are serious, Ahmednasir was clear that they are still unverified. He said he is ready to provide full details to Chief Justice Martha Koome and the Judicial Service Commission, but only if they are truly serious about fighting corruption within the judiciary.

His post has drawn a lot of attention from the public, mainly because of the weight of the accusations and how openly they were shared. Still, no names have been revealed, and no official investigation has been launched so far, leaving many questions unanswered.
