Nairobi’s 2027 governor aspirant and business mogul Agnes Kagure has won the hearts of many city residents. This is after she fully facilitated the burial of 15 members of street families whose bodies had been abandoned at various morgues across the county, including the Nairobi Funeral Home.

Through a post on Facebook, Kagure revealed that beyond giving the deceased a dignified send-off, she also spent time with the grieving families and shared a meal with them, describing the moment as both painful and necessary.
A humane gesture
“Today, we laid to rest 15 members of street families whose bodies had been abandoned at several morgues within our county, including the Nairobi Funeral Home.
“To comfort the mourning families, we also enjoyed a group lunch thereafter and I tasked my team to make arrangements for a county-wide medical camp for street families,” Kagure wrote.
She, however, noted that the burial exercise was not an isolated act of charity but a reflection of deeper problems within Nairobi.

According to Kagure, such situations persist because of leadership failures and growing indifference in society.
“But this is not the end. We must confront the uncomfortable truth that such situations persist because our county leadership has failed, and we have developed indifference as a society,” she added.
Her message struck a chord with many Nairobians, who praised her for stepping in where systems have long failed, especially on matters touching on dignity, social welfare, and the forgotten members of society.
Growing public appeal
Kagure went on to challenge both leaders and ordinary citizens to play a role in addressing the plight of street families.
“I urge the county government to establish clear, humane systems for handling unclaimed bodies and supporting street families. I also call on citizens, leaders, and institutions to refuse indifference; we can all do something,” she stated.

The city-based tycoon has, in recent months, emerged as a popular figure in Nairobi, largely due to her generosity, hands-on leadership style, and consistent engagement with vulnerable groups.
From supporting informal traders to championing healthcare initiatives, Kagure has positioned herself as a leader who prioritises people over politics.
As the 2027 Nairobi governor race slowly takes shape, many residents view her actions as a reflection of the leadership they desire, one grounded in compassion, accountability, and practical solutions.
