City tycoon and Nairobi-based philanthropist Agnes Kagure has once again left supporters anxious about her next move in the capital’s politics.

Through her official Facebook page on Friday, September 5, 2025, Kagure shared photos alongside former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, sparking renewed speculation about her 2027 ambitions.

“With my friend Governor Mike Sonko at his office earlier today, where we deliberated on, among other important issues, Nairobi’s worrying state and the recent developments regarding its leadership. We shall give a way forward in due course,” Kagure wrote.

Kagure is among the heavyweights positioning themselves to succeed Governor Johnson Sakaja, who is battling a possible impeachment after 85 MCAs signed a motion seeking his removal.

Political observers note that the uncertainty at City Hall has created room for new faces and tested figures to step up ahead of the next general election.

While not explicitly declaring her candidature, Kagure’s latest moves have been interpreted by analysts as a signal that she is not backing down from the 2027 race.

Her background as a business leader and philanthropist continues to appeal to sections of Nairobi voters seeking a balance between proven management and community-driven leadership.

The meeting with Sonko, who still commands grassroots support despite his own dramatic exit from City Hall in 2020, has added fuel to speculations of possible alliances.

Sources close to the two leaders say discussions touched on the state of service delivery in Nairobi, governance challenges, and ways to ensure the capital regains its lost glory.

Political watchers argue that such engagements are part of a wider strategy by Kagure to consolidate networks across the city and position herself as a formidable alternative to Sakaja.

Kagure, known for her consistent involvement in social causes across Nairobi, has built her brand around philanthropy and empowerment initiatives.

Supporters argue that her entry into the race would inject fresh energy into the city’s politics, while critics remain cautious about whether business leaders can navigate the turbulence of City Hall.

For now, Nairobi residents await her “way forward,” as she continues to test the waters while Sakaja’s political future hangs in the balance.
