Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that her safety is under threat, following what she described as a suspicious summons from an individual purporting to be affiliated with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kiambu County.
Addressing journalists outside the Kiambu Police Headquarters on Monday, Wamuchomba expressed concern for her personal safety and called for immediate protection, citing her role as an elected female leader.
“I am concerned for my life. As a woman leader in this country, I have the constitutional right to security, and I expect to be protected,” the legislator stated.
Wamuchomba had visited the police station to respond to the alleged summons. However, after consultations with senior officers, she was informed that the individual who claimed to have summoned her was not affiliated with the station or any known government agency.
She recounted her conversation with high-ranking investigative officers who distanced themselves from the summon.
“I spoke with the DCIO, CCIO, and the regional criminal investigations head. They all confirmed that no such summons was issued and that the person behind it is unknown to them. They even suspect this could be linked to individuals behind recent abductions in the area,” she explained.
The MP also disclosed that her state-provided bodyguard had been withdrawn, further heightening her fears.
“I want to state clearly — my security is now the responsibility of the government. If anything happens to me, the state will be held accountable. I demand that my security be reinstated without delay,” she said.
Over the weekend, Wamuchomba had taken to her verified X account to reveal that she had received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Kiambu County Criminal Investigations Office, instructing her to appear for questioning. She suspected the move was politically driven.
In her post, she alleged that the summon was part of a wider plot aimed at silencing her and frustrating the people of Githunguri, who she said had refused to be swayed by “empty promises and failed projects.”
