Preacher Victor Kanyari has emerged as the leading candidate in an online survey on the 2027 Kasarani parliamentary race.
The Mwelekeo Insights survey placed Kanyari first with 304 votes, representing 31.8 per cent of the 955 responses recorded.
Former Kasarani MP Mercy Gakuya finished second. The Democracy for the Citizens Party candidate received 264 votes, or 27.6 per cent. Mwelekeo Insights published the final results on July 20, 2026.
Kanyari opens narrow lead
Kanyari led Gakuya by 40 votes and 4.2 percentage points.
Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri came third with 203 votes, translating to 21.3 per cent. The platform listed him as a United Democratic Alliance candidate.
Victor Sankara, also listed under the United Democratic Alliance, finished fourth. He garnered 83 votes, or 8.7 per cent.
Boniface Nyamu of the Democracy for the Citizens Party received 59 votes, representing 6.2 per cent.
David Asunda completed the candidate list with 41 votes, or 4.3 per cent. Only one participant, representing 0.1 per cent, remained undecided.
The platform recorded all 955 responses as valid. It reported no rejected ballots.
However, the stated 100 per cent turnout refers to participation on the online platform. It is not the electoral turnout of Kasarani’s registered voters.
Party numbers complicate race
The combined support for the two Democracy for the Citizens Party figures stood at 323 votes, or 33.8 per cent.
The two United Democratic Alliance figures collected a combined 286 votes, representing about 30 per cent.
Those figures indicate that party nominations could significantly reshape the contest. Kanyari led every individual contender, but the combined DCP vote was higher than his personal tally.
The survey also comes after Karauri declared that he would contest the Nairobi governorship in 2027. He entered Parliament as an independent candidate in 2022 and remains listed as such by the National Assembly.
Kanyari has already declared his interest in the Kasarani seat and has started addressing local economic and leadership issues.
The findings provide an early picture of political interest in the constituency. They should not, however, be treated as an election forecast.
Mwelekeo’s results page does not state whether respondents were randomly selected. It also does not provide demographic weighting or a margin of error. The figures therefore represent the preferences of the 955 people who participated in the online survey.
