Oyugi Magwanga has taken a commanding lead in the Homa Bay gubernatorial race, according to the latest digital poll by Mwelekeo Insights.

Magwanga, who was listed as an independent, secured 57.9 per cent support, placing him well ahead of incumbent Governor Gladys Wanga of ODM.

Wanga came second with 29 per cent, giving Magwanga a 28.9 percentage-point advantage in the early contest.

Magwanga opens lead

The findings position Magwanga as the strongest name in the survey as political activity builds ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Hesbon Omollo of UDA ranked third with 7.9 per cent, while former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero received 4.8 per cent.

Only 0.4 per cent of participants remained undecided.

Magwanga’s performance suggests he is attracting considerable political interest in a county traditionally regarded as an ODM stronghold.

His lead also places pressure on Wanga as she prepares to defend the seat she won in the 2022 General Election.

Mwelekeo Insights poll

Mwelekeo Insights released the final rankings under its Homa Bay County gubernatorial survey.

The research firm specialises in measuring public sentiment on politics, governance, economic trends, social issues, business and consumer behaviour.

The results indicate that Magwanga currently enjoys the highest support among the individuals listed in the digital poll.

However, the figures represent the preferences recorded through the Mwelekeo Insights platform and should not be interpreted as the final position of all registered voters in Homa Bay County.

The 2027 race could still be influenced by party nominations, political alliances, campaign strategies and voter mobilisation.

For now, the Mwelekeo Insights findings place Magwanga firmly ahead of his possible rivals, with Wanga emerging as his closest challenger.
