Detectives have intensified investigations into the brutal murder of 60-year-old Millicent Wahura Mwangi, whose body was discovered in a grisly manner after she went missing on November 11, 2025, in Olkalou, Nyandarua Central Sub-County.
The case initially began as a missing person report at Olkalou Police Station but took a grim turn after preliminary findings suggested foul play.
Three days later, on November 14, passers-by at Rumathi village, about 37 kilometres away along the Malewa–Kipipiri road, stumbled upon a female torso stuffed in a sack.
Clad in a whitish blouse with blue and black stripes, the torso was immediately taken to JM Kariuki Memorial Funeral Home for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
The family later positively identified the remains as those of their missing mother, confirming the tragic reality.
Following confirmation of murder, detectives from the DCI Homicide Investigations Unit took over the probe, collaborating with Nyandarua Central Sub-County detectives to launch an intensive manhunt for the perpetrator.
Using forensic intelligence, investigators traced and arrested Benson Maina Mwangi, the deceased’s second-born son, at his hideout in Kamulu on November 20.
He was arraigned before the SPM’s Court in Olkalou on November 24 and remains in custody pending mention on January 19, 2026, after detectives secured a 21-day custodial order.
On December 23, homicide detectives and forensic experts conducted a re-enactment of the crime scene, guided by the suspect.
The exercise included a search at River Malewa, where investigators recovered crucial evidence, including a machete believed to be the murder weapon, a bedsheet, a blanket, and other items disposed of after the killing.
