President William Ruto turned poetic in Kitui County on Thursday, November 13, 2025, showering praise on the people of Ukambani and promising that the region will no longer be left behind in Kenya’s development story.

“Sikizeni nyinyi watu wa Ukambani. Hii Ukambani imechezewa karata ya pata potea siku mingi. Acha niseme nikiwa hapa, hii Ukambani, the people of Ukambani are the best people, ni watu wazuri sana, watu wa Ukambani. Kama kuna watu watatangulia mbinguni ni watu wa Ukambani,” Ruto said to an excited crowd.

Promises for equal growth

Ruto admitted that Ukambani had been sidelined for far too long but assured residents that this time things would be different.

He promised to make Ukambani a key player in the next government, giving the region a voice in planning and decision-making.

“Hii Ukambani haiwezi kuchezewa karata ya pata potea ya kuenda upinzani. Hii Ukambani kwa mapenzi ya Mungu, juu chini, kulia na kushoto, mbele na nyuma, hii Ukambani tunatengeneza serikali 2027 pamoja na nyinyi,” he said.

The President’s words came as he commissioned the Kamuwongo fresh produce market in Mwingi North, a move meant to boost trade and empower local farmers.

His tone carried a mix of gratitude, promise, and spiritual warmth, describing the people of Ukambani as “first in line for heaven”, a poetic nod to their resilience and faith.

Eye on 2027 politics

Ruto’s message went beyond development; it was also deeply political. As he promised roads, water projects, and inclusion, his visit hinted at early 2027 campaign groundwork, with Ukambani emerging as a key battleground.

By calling the region “the best,” Ruto aimed to charm a voting bloc that has historically leaned toward the opposition.

His words painted a picture of a new partnership, one where Ukambani is not just a spectator but a shareholder in Kenya’s future.

With laughter, applause, and scripture-like assurance, Ruto closed his speech, reminding locals that their destiny was tied to national progress.

Whether it was a campaign tone or genuine affection, one thing was clear: Ukambani had the President’s full attention.
