The United States Embassy in Nairobi has announced that the US will continue supporting the Multinational Security Mission in Haiti, reversing a directive issued by former President Donald Trump to withdraw funding.

In a statement on Thursday, February 6, the embassy reaffirmed the US commitment to the mission and acknowledged Kenya’s leadership in the operation.

“The United States continues to support the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti. As Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in his call with President Ruto on January 27, we are grateful for Kenya’s leadership of this mission,” the statement read in part.

The decision comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize Haiti, where Kenya has pledged to deploy officers to help restore order.
