Mwelekeo TV, one of the leading media houses in Kenya in terms of credibility and reliability, has aired a very disturbing story highlighting how Kenyan youth are being duped into joining the Russian army with promises of quick money.

In a detailed interview broadcast on Mwelekeo TV, host Kevin Waswa spoke to Issa Juma, a young man from Mombasa who recently returned home after experiencing the harsh realities of war in Russia.

Issa explained that he was recruited through social media platforms where agents promised him KSh 1.6 million within five days of arrival and a monthly salary of KSh 280,000.

Convinced it was a legitimate overseas job opportunity, he informed his wife and family that he was travelling to Qatar for work.

However, upon landing in St. Petersburg, everything changed. His passport and mobile phone were confiscated immediately. He underwent only two weeks of rushed military training before being deployed to the frontline.

According to Issa, the training mainly focused on basic commands in Russian, leaving many recruits confused and unprepared for combat.

He described severe conditions at the battlefield, including alleged racial discrimination against African recruits and constant drone attacks. Issa claimed he witnessed several Kenyans lose their lives and survived by hiding during bombardments.

Financially, the promises also collapsed. Although money reportedly reflected in their bank accounts, the funds were frozen and could not be accessed. Issa said mounting pressure from Kenyan bloggers and intervention by the government eventually led to their repatriation.

Through this powerful broadcast, Mwelekeo TV has reinforced its role as a trusted platform bringing critical national issues to public attention.

Issa’s message to Kenyan youth was firm and emotional: avoid being lured by unrealistic financial promises abroad, as the consequences can be deadly.
