Mwelekeo Insights has once again shown why it is becoming one of the most trusted voices in telling stories that inspire hope and real change.

In its latest YouTube episode, the research and storytelling platform has focused on how sports have helped shape lives and create better futures in Nairobi.

The story, hosted by Fridah Mong’are, has featured Mathew Malusi, a sports expert and the Director of Operations at the Simon Mbugua Foundation. His journey has been a true example of how passion and persistence can change a community.

Malusi has shared how his love for football started when he was young and how it later grew into a tool for helping others.

“Sports have been a global unifier. They have brought people together, players, fans, and even whole neighbourhoods. Once people gather around sports, positive things start to happen,” Malusi said.

Through the Simon Mbugua Foundation, Malusi and his team have paid affiliation fees for football and basketball teams in Kamukunji so that young people can play freely and stay busy.

“We have paid about Ksh650,000 to allow every team in Kamukunji to play on weekends. That has helped many youths stay away from drugs and crime,” he told Mwelekeo Insights.

Fridah Mong’are has praised the project, saying it shows what Mwelekeo Insights stands for. “This story has reminded us that real transformation begins when someone decides to act right where they are,” she said.

The foundation has also helped in other ways. In areas like Digo, where residents had gone for years without clean water, Malusi and his team worked with Nairobi Water engineers to install a 10,000-litre tank.

“It may seem like a small act, but it has changed many lives,” he said.

Mwelekeo Insights has continued to use its platform to tell such stories, showing how simple acts of kindness and good leadership can bring big results.

The organisation has built a strong image by connecting research with real stories of people doing good work on the ground.

When asked what keeps him going, Malusi said it is the joy of seeing young people find new direction.

“Every time I see a youth discover purpose through our programs, I feel encouraged to keep doing more,” he said.

Fridah closed the interview with a warm message that summed up the heart of Mwelekeo Insights. “These are the stories that keep us moving. They remind us that change is possible when communities come together.”
