Kenya Airways Slams Sonko Over False Plane Crash Claims

Kenya Airways (KQ) has strongly refuted claims made by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko regarding an alleged plane crash involving one of its aircraft.

In a statement on Tuesday, KQ dismissed Sonko’s post on X, where he claimed that a Kenya Airways flight had crashed. The national carrier termed the allegations as false and irresponsible, calling for the immediate removal of the misleading post.

“This is not funny! Spreading false information about aviation safety is irresponsible! Kindly take it down,” KQ responded.

The airline further assured the public that all its flights were operating as scheduled and urged social media users to verify information before sharing.

Sonko’s post had sparked panic among netizens, prompting calls for authorities to take action against the spread of fake news, especially on sensitive matters like aviation safety.

Some social media users speculated that Sonko’s post may have been an April Fool’s Day prank, given that the claims were made on April 1. However, many criticized him, arguing that aviation safety is a serious issue that should not be used for jokes.

As of now, Sonko is yet to issue a clarification or take down the post.
