Jane Wanjiru Macharia has been convicted by the High Court in Nanyuki for the murder of George Gachibi Karegwa, which happened on the night of 4th December 2018. The court was told that Jane, together with two accomplices, broke into George’s home unlawfully.

Once inside, they attacked and killed him before stealing his personal belongings, household items, and his car. George, who used to be in a relationship with Jane, lost his life in a brutal and well-planned attack.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions released a statement confirming that Jane was found guilty of leading the violent break-in that resulted in her former lover’s death.

During the trial, the prosecution, led by Ms. Esther Kimani, revealed that this was not Jane’s first time getting in trouble with the law. In fact, she was already serving three sentences for different robbery cases.

To make matters worse, she committed these other crimes while out on bond for the murder trial, which led the court to cancel her bail.

The victim, George Gachibi Karegwa, was a businessman who owned an entertainment spot in Nanyuki. Jane had worked there before as a waitress, and it is believed that this is how the two first met. On the morning of the murder, George was found lying dead in his house, soaked in blood. He had suffered several stab wounds, indicating that the attack was both brutal and violent.

His employees, who became worried when he didn’t respond to calls or show up for work, were the ones who discovered his body and alerted the authorities.

While the exact reason behind the murder is still unclear, there are rumors that it might have been caused by a personal argument or disagreement. However, this has not been confirmed. What is known is that Jane and her accomplices didn’t waste time after the crime.

They tried to escape, but DCI detectives tracked them down and arrested them the next day at a petrol station in Murang’a. At the time of arrest, they were found with George’s stolen car and several items from his home, giving the police solid proof to back the charges.

The conviction has brought some relief to those who knew the victim, although many are still shocked at the level of cruelty involved.

Justice has now been served, but the pain of the loss still lingers for George’s family, friends, and relatives.
