A chilling new revelation has come out about the death of Albert Ojwang, an influencer and school teacher. This has raised serious questions after government pathologist Dr. Bernard Midia confirmed that Ojwang’s injuries were caused by an assault from another person.

This statement directly goes against what the National Police Service had claimed earlier, where they said the injuries were self-inflicted. Dr. Midia gave these findings during an autopsy on Tuesday, June 10, at the Nairobi Funeral Home. The autopsy put an end to more than 24 hours of public speculation after Ojwang died on Sunday, June 8.

Dr. Midia explained that Ojwang had a head injury, neck compression, and other injuries on different parts of his body. According to him, these injuries clearly showed signs of a violent struggle. He said the cause of death was easy to identify because of the head trauma, pressure on the neck, and other wounds that were consistent with being attacked. These results are very different from the police report, which claimed Ojwang hit his head on a wall in a police cell and injured himself.

Police had stated that Ojwang was found unconscious in his cell at Central Police Station and later declared dead after being taken to Mbagathi Hospital.

But soon after, Ojwang’s family lawyer, who saw the body on Monday, said there were signs that showed something more serious had happened. The lawyer mentioned that Ojwang had a swollen head, blood coming from his nose, and injuries on his hands and shoulders.

These wounds suggested that Ojwang may have tried to fight off an attacker. The lawyer told reporters that there were serious injuries on the head, hand, and shoulder, along with a lot of blood coming from his nose.

Before Ojwang died, an audio recording was leaked on Monday in which he sounded very scared. In the recording, he asked a friend if he would be safe after being arrested in Homa Bay and taken to Nairobi.

That question now adds more weight to the suspicion that Ojwang feared for his life. After news of his death spread, people started protesting near City Mortuary, now called Nairobi Funeral Home. Activists and lawyers demanded to see his body and put more pressure on the police for answers.

The Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, later confirmed that several police officers who were on duty when Ojwang died had been arrested.

At the same time, Dr. Midia sent forensic samples to other investigative bodies to help support his report and assist in ongoing investigations into Albert Ojwang’s mysterious death.
