Former DP Rigathi Gachagua delivered blame straight to the doorstep of his former boss, President William Ruto, alleging a chilling plot to eliminate him.
In a dramatic press conference held at his Karen residence, Gachagua claimed that multiple State security agencies had been mobilized to assassinate him during a church service in Gatanga, Murang’a County on Sunday.
“I received intelligence that President Ruto ordered I be dealt with once and for all,” said Gachagua. “A killer squad of 101 officers from the NPS, NIS, GSU, and regular police was sent to carry out a heinous act. They planned to use poison-laced tear gas.”
The former deputy president, who was impeached in October 2024 following a major fallout with the president, accused the government of also plotting to plant illegal firearms in his vehicles and those of his allies.

He further alleged that Ruto had ordered the disarming of his licensed personal bodyguards. “Any attempt to stop me is futile. It’s Kenyans who won’t be intimidated by the criminal justice system,” Gachagua declared defiantly.
The accusations follow weeks of heightened political tension and controversial remarks by Gachagua about the 2027 elections. In a recent interview, he warned of potential post-election violence if the polls are not free and fair. Critics labeled the comments inciteful, but Gachagua insisted they were misinterpreted.
“The president’s people have twisted my words. I was only urging the IEBC to avoid a repeat of 2007,” he clarified.
Despite fears of an imminent arrest, the former DP asserted he had received no summons.
“I’m not hiding. If they want to arrest me, come to my door. Don’t stalk me on the roads,” he said.
Gachagua also warned he would continue speaking out against what he termed “the corruption and misrule at the heart of Ruto’s government.
