A farmer from Kamtu Village in Mbeere North Constituency is seeking justice after claiming that a helicopter believed to have been carrying a Cabinet Secretary landed on his farm and destroyed crops spread across nearly an acre of land.
The incident has left him with heavy losses and frustration over what he describes as inadequate compensation.
According to the resident, the helicopter touched down in the middle of his productive farmland, flattening crops that he had invested time, money, and effort to grow. He says the damage has affected his family’s source of food and income, making it difficult to recover from the unexpected setback.
The farmer alleges that after the incident, he was given KSh10,000 as compensation. However, he argues that the amount does not reflect the true value of the crops that were destroyed. In his view, the losses run far beyond the payment he received, considering that almost an acre of cultivated land was affected.
He maintains that the compensation offered cannot cover the cost of the destroyed produce or the work that had gone into preparing and maintaining the farm. As a result, he is calling for a fresh assessment of the damage and a settlement that matches the actual value of his losses.
The resident further claims that he has tried on several occasions to reach the Cabinet Secretary’s office in search of a fair solution, but his efforts have not been successful.
He says his calls and attempts to engage with the relevant officials have gone unanswered, leaving him with little choice but to consider legal action.
The allegations have sparked public debate, with many Kenyans expressing concern over the reported destruction of private property and the treatment of ordinary citizens in such situations. Some critics argue that government officials and those accompanying them should be held accountable whenever their activities result in damage to people’s homes or livelihoods.
The farmer insists that he will continue pursuing every available legal channel until he receives what he believes is fair compensation for the destruction of his crops. He hopes that his case will not only bring him justice but also encourage greater responsibility and accountability in future.
By the time of publication, the Cabinet Secretary’s office had not issued an official response to the claims made by the Kamtu Village resident.
