Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has been removed from the influential Budget and Appropriations Committee just hours after unleashing a scathing attack on President William Ruto during a public event in Murang’a.
Nyoro, speaking at Kiaguthu Boys High School earlier in the day, delivered a blistering critique of the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing it of betraying the trust of Kenyans. He demanded the president deliver on promises made during the 2022 campaigns, including the timely release of capitation funds to schools, increased revenue allocation to counties, and prioritisation of major stalled projects such as the SHA housing program.
“We must stop wasting money on endless empowerment shows, unnecessary renovations of the State House, and focus on the basics Kenyans need,” Nyoro declared, to the applause of a charged crowd.
Hours later, the axe fell.
In a communication from Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Nyoro was officially removed from the Budget and Appropriations Committee and reassigned to the less influential Diaspora Affairs and Migrant Workers Committee. The move was part of a reorganisation proposed by the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Selection.

While no official reason was given, the timing has fueled speculation that Nyoro’s outspoken remarks cost him his seat at the high table of Parliament’s budget-making process.
He has recently criticised the government’s borrowing strategy, including the controversial Ksh44.8 billion Talanta Infrastructure Bond, which he termed a long-term debt trap. Nyoro has also questioned the rationale behind recent fuel hikes, claiming they were tied to a secretive Ksh175 billion loan.
Mathioya MP Edwin Gishuk will now take over as chair of the Budget Committee.
Political analysts say Nyoro’s reassignment is a clear signal to other UDA MPs to tread carefully when it comes to criticising the government. Still, the Kiharu legislator remains defiant, vowing to continue speaking out on behalf of Kenyans.
