How Zila Tech and partners are helping digitise learning in Kenya

Kenya is stepping into a new chapter in education with a project called One Child One Chromebook. This project is being led by Zila Tech and it is helping students across the country access digital learning in a way that is practical and affordable.

Zila Tech is working together with Google and a group of local partners to make this dream possible. Their goal is to give every child in Kenya a chance to learn through technology no matter where they come from or what school they attend.

As part of the One Child One Chromebook project, schools are receiving Chromebooks for their students. They also get access to tools like Google Classroom, Google Docs, Forms and Meet. These tools are helping teachers manage lessons, share assignments and keep in touch with students easily and quickly.

To make sure that families can afford the devices, NCBA and Loop have come in to offer a flexible payment plan. With their lipa pole pole system, parents can pay for a Chromebook in small monthly instalments. This is making it easier for more children to get a device of their own and continue learning without stress at home or in school.

The Chromebooks being used in this project are made by Acer. The devices are strong, reliable and simple enough for learners of all ages. Whether it is a child in primary school or a student in college, they are easy to use and made to last.

To help students start learning right away, LoHo Learning is preparing the devices with content that follows the Competency Based Curriculum. This means the learning materials on the Chromebook match what is being taught in schools across the country.

The project was officially launched in June 2025 at the Google office in Nairobi. It has already started in some schools and the next phase is expected to roll out from July 2025. The plan is to reach learners from pre primary all the way to university level.

What makes this project special is that it brings together technology, education and financial support all in one. Students are not just receiving computers. They are also getting content and support that prepares them for life in a digital world.

Zila Tech and its partners are making sure that every child in Kenya has the same chance to succeed. This is more than just a technology project. It is a step toward equal opportunities for all learners, support for teachers and a better future for the next generation.

Digital learning in Kenya is no longer something for a few lucky children. It is becoming a right for every child in every part of the country.
