Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni endorsed former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks to the youth, urging them to rise up and seize power during elections through active participation and leadership.
The endorsement followed a closed-door meeting between the two leaders on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Entebbe, Uganda.
Uhuru paid a courtesy visit to Museveni after addressing students at the Guild Leaders’ Summit held at Makerere University, where he challenged African youth to take charge of the continent’s future.
Museveni expressed full support for Uhuru’s message, noting that young people needed to view themselves as the custodians of Africa’s destiny.
He commended Uhuru for inspiring the youth and stated that the sentiments reflected Uganda’s long-standing principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy.
“I was pleased to hear that these students are embracing the four pillars we’ve been preaching for years,” Museveni said in a statement released after their meeting. “This is a crucial step toward ensuring Africa’s prosperity, and I will be meeting the Guild Leadership Academy to explore it further.”
During his address at the summit, Uhuru told the students that African youth were facing their own independence moment and referred to them as the “freedom warriors of this era.”
He emphasized that with shifting global dynamics, Africa must stop depending on foreign aid and instead focus on creating local solutions.
Museveni echoed these views and called on African leaders and citizens to abandon divisive identity politics in favor of unity and shared development goals.
Uganda’s Vice President Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo also attended the summit. She reinforced the message that Africa’s transformation depended on collective responsibility, discipline, and hard work by its young leaders.
The meeting between Museveni and Uhuru underscored the growing efforts to shape a new generation of leadership in Africa grounded in shared values and regional solidarity.
