Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has stirred fresh debate inside the Orange Democratic Movement after cautioning members against bragging about their role in the broad based government.

Speaking as quoted by one of the leading political platforms, Political Ringside, the legislator warned that uncontrolled celebration could damage the party’s bargaining power in the long run.

He noted that political influence grows when a party holds its ground quietly and remains strategic.

Amollo cited the Kikuyu community as an example, arguing that even though they hold more senior positions in the Kenya Kwanza administration, they rarely boast about it in public.

According to the MP, ODM members risk appearing desperate if they continue to publicise their presence in the national arrangement without restraint.

He warned that such behaviour could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general election, where negotiations for positions will heavily rely on perceived value.

Amollo revealed that ODM currently holds two cabinet positions and four principal secretaries, while the Kikuyu community holds eight cabinet seats and twelve principal secretaries.

Even with this difference, he said, the Kikuyus have remained silent and tactical in their political engagement.

The lawmaker urged ODM members to exercise restraint, unity and discipline as the party moves through what he described as one of its most difficult periods.

He explained that he had chosen to maintain a low profile since the passing of ODM leader Raila Odinga, noting that the party has been undergoing deep reflection and internal adjustment.

Amollo also criticised a growing trend of politicians claiming to speak on behalf of the late Raila.

He dismissed such claims as misleading and insisted that only the public statements made by the former Prime Minister should guide the party’s direction.

He reminded members that Raila had clearly stated that ODM would remain part of the current government until 2027.

He added that decisions beyond that point would be made by the leaders who are still alive to guide the party.

Analysts now say Amollo’s remarks could signal internal tension on how ODM positions itself within the broad based government, especially as succession politics begin to take shape.
